According to the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner, Bernie Karl's Chena Hot Springs and the Fairbanks North-Star Borough have earned a $1-million matching grant to research, model and perhaps expand geothermal energy production capacity at the Fairbanks-area resort. The U.S. Department of Energy grant will go to the borough, and Chena Hot Springs is required to match it. The assembly approved accepting the money, and now it must decide whether to give the money to Karl, whose project proposal was the only one out of interested parties to meet the March deadline.
