In the modern culture of sustainability and global economic responsibility, fair trade is a popular calling card that emphasizes a better quality of life for the creators of products from developing countries all over the world. Now, fair trade fashion is coming to Anchorage for a show at GrassRoots, a midtown store that specializes in fair trade products. A press release on the event asks for help from members of the community in deciding what forward-thinking fashions Alaskans would be most likely to wear.
The fashions to be shown were crafted in third-world countries with the input and guidance of designers. The event will feature photos of the locations where the clothing was crafted. "Participants will have the opportunity to learn more about these workshops," the press release says, "as well as see and feel a sampling of the organic cotton, hemp, and knit apparel."GrassRoots is located in the Northern Lights Center between REI and Title Wave Books. The event begins at 4 p.m. and will offer 20 percent off for any pre-orders placed at the show.
