'Coast Guard Alaska' to become Alaska's newest reality TV show

Apparently Sarah Palin traipsing around Alaska for TLC, the boys of Deadliest Catch crabbing around Dutch Harbor and a healthy serving of Ice Road trucking wasn't enough for audiences in the Lower 48: "Coast Guard Alaska" will debut in November on The Weather Channel via Al Roker Entertainment. "There's so much more to the Coast Guard Alaska story than what happens inside the rescue helicopter," Cmdr. Sean Carroll, head of the Los Angeles-based Coast Guard Motion Picture & Television Office, told Military.com. "[We] appreciate the opportunity to give the American people a behind the scenes look into the real lives of the Coast Guard men and women stationed throughout Alaska." Bob Walker, an executive at The Weather Channel, tells The Hollywood Reporter the network is drawn to the show because of the potential for "great storytelling, action and adventure, and most importantly, [a look at] how the weather affects someone's work and lifestyle." The show will focus on the lives of men and women in the Coast Guard who are stationed at Kodiak.
