Cockfighting bust in Kodiak

According to the Kodiak Daily Mirror, after twice being called to investigate roosters crowing in a residential area and failing to find any, the Kodiak Police Department executed a search warrant. They ended up seizing 14 roosters they believe were being used in illegal cockfights. Officers found materials associated with the bloodsport, but made no arrests at the time of the search. Charges are pending on the birds' owner, and the Kodiak Humane Society has taken the birds in. Conducting animal fights is illegal in Alaska, carrying a maximum fine of $50,000 and maximum sentence of five years in prison.
