Congressman Young to be honored for Alaska railroad rescue

The employees of the Alaska Railroad plan to honor Congressman Don Young for all his recent hard work in securing federal transportation funds for the state of Alaska despite stiff opposition in Washington, D.C.

According to Young's office, Alaska Railroad staff honor the congressman for saving the railroad's bacon on Friday at a private event featuring speeches, congratulations, and a forum.

Young's work on a congressional conference committee helped secure transportation funding plums for Alaska totaling nearly $1 billion over the next two years in the massive $120-billion federal transportation spending bill. The funds will help support the Alaska Railroad as well as the Marine Highway and the Tribal Transportation Program for years to come.
