Discovery Channel back in Alaska with 'Yukon Men'

It started with Deadliest Catch. The Discovery Channel has since become a key part of the bombardment of Alaska-based reality shows that crackle across the television screen. Discovery's "Gold Rush" and "Flying Wild Alaska" are just a few of the many reality shows on Alaska life.

Now the Discovery Channel is back in Alaska, this time turning its lens towards life in an Interior village.

The SeattlePi reports that the Discovery Channel will premiere a new series, "Yukon Men" on August 24, at 7 p.m. Alaska time. The show follows inhabitants of the town of Tanana, which in 2010 had a population of 246, according to census data.

The show's description states that Tanana is a rough place where "People struggle to find food and heat and battle life-threatening predators just to survive ... Boys grow into men quickly here because they must help the family survive. Father-son bonding and tensions take on a new meaning in this environment. The stakes are high."

The series will star rugged Alaska types such as Charlie, a hunter and trapper who keeps Tanana's water supply functioning, and Boston native Stan, who moved to Alaska 40 years ago and lives with his family and dog team in the small town.
