DIY program on 'Warmest Village in Alaska' an award-winner

According to Montana State University (MSU) News, Weatherization TV (WxTV) aired an episode on extreme weather condition featuring the village of Goodnews Bay, Alaska. The episode, titled "The Warmest Village in Alaska," won MSU producers a pair of Telly Awards for Documentary and Informational Internet/online video.

Goodnews Bay is a remote Yup'ik village in Southwest Alaska. The village sits on the edge of Togiak Nation Wildlife Refuge near the coast of the Bering Sea. WxTV worked with the Rural Alaska Community Action Program and the Alaska Housing Finance Corporation to create MSU's segment.

The 25-nute episode featured DIY techniques and instruction on how to air seal against blowing snow, weatherize for harsh winter weather, install under-floor insulation for houses on stilts in permafrost conditions and other useful remote location tips.

WxTV host Ben Cichowski said, "We truly got a sense of how needed these weatherization measures are in rural Alaska, and how big of an impact they make in the lives of the people who live in Goodnews Bay and the many Alaska villages like it. We're pleased that the video conveys the collaboration at work to improve this community and their quality of life."
