Earthquake shakes Southcentral Alaska early Wednesday

A 4.4-magnitude earthquake on Alaska's Kenai Peninsula was felt as far away as Anchorage early Wednesday.

The Alaska Earthquake Information Service reported the temblor occurred at 4:50 a.m. about 15 miles south of Sterling.

The quake, which occurred 37 miles underground, was felt by some in Alaska's largest city. Anchorage sits some 70 miles to the north. There were no reports of damage as of early Wednesday.

According to the Alaska Earthquake Information Center, another small quake located 35 miles east of Denali Park rumbled at 7:34 a.m. Tuesday. It was felt in Denali Village near the entrance to the park, and in Cantwell and Healy on either side of the park.A few Fairbanks residents also felt it.
