Correction: The following news brief originally stated that the video was filmed aboard the actual bus on Stampede Trail which was made famous by the Chris McCandless story. We were notified July 13 by the band Feeding Frenzy that we were incorrect. The video was really filmed in a movie-set bus left behind by the crew filming the movie about McCandless's life and death. We regret the error and have corrected the text below to reflect the fact.
The Fairbanks quintet Feeding Frenzy filmed its first official music video on a movie replica of the Fairbanks City Transit System bus that once housed recluse Chris McCandless. The band's single "Whiskey Bottle" tells the tale of an individual's relationship with escapism, a story vocalist and saw player Rebecca File believes is comparable to the McCandless tragedy.
Of the choice to shoot on the bus, File said the group wanted to create a music video with a uniquely Alaskan feel. She added that the "Into the Wild bus" is a clear signifier to most non-Alaskans of the state's particularly rugged personality. File and the band were interested in relaying a "we are real Alaskans" sentiment with a whimsical twist, but that no particularly critical message was intended.
Feeding Frenzy is made up of Alaska-reared musicians Rebecca and Chad File, Ephy Wheeler, Daniel Firmin and Ryan Bateman. On Facebook, the group describes its sound as "an exercise in polarity (with) soft melodies and singer/songwriter influenced songs (that) meet high-energy melodious sing-alongs."
Although Feeding Frenzy has played at SXSW, the legendary Austin, Texas, music festival, and toured the Pacific Northwest, they've never tried their luck in their home state. However, this July the band will hit the road with Chicago-based Netherfriends on their first statewide Alaska tour.
