Fat Fridays: A look at the federal funds Alaska received this week

Every Friday, media across the state get a press release from Alaska's congressional delegation touting how much federal grant and loan-money comes to the state. This Fat Friday is a little lean -- less than $6 million -- but the folks at the Gwitchyaa Zhee Utility Company had a nice Friday:

1) U.S. Department of Agriculture: $3,500,000 to Gwitchyaa Zhee Utility Company to construct a new Combined Heat and Power facility.

2) U.S. Department of Agriculture: $1,000,000 to Tlingit Haida Regional Housing Authority (THRHA) to reduce high energy costs for low-income families living in THRHA housing in three rural communities.

3) U.S. Department of Agriculture: $443,779 to Alaska Village Initiatives to install two hydrogen generation systems in five villages.

4) U.S. Department of Agriculture: $50,000 to the Sea Lion Corporation for Wind Project.

5) U. S. Department of Transportation: $120,000 to the Municipality of Anchorage for a set of mobile smartphone applications to simplify access to transit information without a web connection.

6) U. S. Department of Transportation: $232,321 to the Alaska Highway Safety Office to support state highway safety programs.
