Feds sell seized blue king crab in big auction

According to KUCB-Radio, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's office of law enforcement is holding an unusual auction of almost 250,000 pounds of blue king crab seized after evidence surfaced that it was illegally caught in Russian waters. Whether or not the crab was caught illegally is still being determined, but since it's a perishable product, it must be converted into dollars while the case plays out. The sealed-bid auction is causing a stir in the crabbing industry because of fears it could distort the market price of blue crab and unfairly penalize law-abiding crabbers next season, whose beginning is only a month away.
