The Agence France-Presse publisheda long list of Putman’s achievements, including the 1984 revamp of the Morgans hotel on Madison Avenue in New York and the overhaul of the interior of the Concorde supersonic jet 10 years later.
Putman also created shop interiors for top fashion designers, including Karl Lagerfield, Azzedine Alaia and Yves Saint Laurent,the Women’s Wear Daily reported.
Putman began her career as a messenger girl for the women's magazine "Femina."
She later set up her own design firm, Ecart, after divorcing her husband, the art dealer Jacques Putman, in the late 1970s, the AFP said.
Her career subsequently took off and she became what her daughter Olivia described as a “style ambassador in spite of herself.”
In the late 1990s, Putman split from Ecart and set up another firm in her own name.
In an interview with The New York Timesin 2000, she said: "It was my second divorce. Both were terrible."
