Holy astronomical Alaska gas prices, Uncle Sam!

Gas prices nearing space orbit altitude have prompted some in the state to seek help Outside. Three Alaska lawmakers recently sent a letter to the United States attorney general, seeking an investigation into skyrocketing per-gallon gasoline prices here. According to the Associated Press, House Democrats -- Anchorage Reps. Chris Tuck and Pete Petersen, and Fairbanks Rep. Scott Kawasaki -- tell Attorney General Eric Holder that "$4.10 average price per gallon of gasoline is harming businesses and families." The AP goes on to report that this investigation was conducted at the state level back in 2009 (it was actually 2008), concluding that Alaska has ridiculous gas prices because of "market conditions" and there was no evidence of "illegal price fixing among sellers."
