The Yukon News reports that Juneau resident Scott Ciambor was surprised when he rolled into Whitehorse for the Klondike Road Relay footrace and found out what a tent city is doing on the grounds of the territorial legislature. "At first, I thought it was runners camping to cut costs on hotel rooms," he said. The tent city sprang up in June as a protest against a shortage of affordable housing in the Yukon's capital city and has been growing all summer. But as fate would have it, Ciambor serves as Juneau's affordable housing coordinator and is co-chair of the Juneau Homeless Coalition, and his visit turned out to be more substantial than just pounding out road miles on foot.
