How we look to them: Kenai combat fishing

If you've been in Alaska awhile, you probably know most of the sights, sounds, and smells from the new article on Alaskan culture by Kim Murphy for the LA Times, but it's still an interesting read. The article covers the scene on the Kenai River fishery, from its mouth to the middle stretch where the Russian River intersects it. One highlight is a woman who identifies with Sarah Palin, who is "out there slammin' salmon with the best of 'em." Another is the fact that Fish and Game had to print a second run of personal-use permits this year because of high demand. The article made us feel like we were ten years old again, toying with hearts in the gut bucket. Read more here.
