Jack-up rig bound for Cook Inlet diverted to Canada

According to the Petroleum News (via the Anchorage Daily News), the jack-up oil and gas rig being transported to Cook Inlet under contract to Escopeta Oil has been delayed in Canada. The rig's owner has requested that Escopeta secure a new Jones Act waiver to make certain the owner won't incur penalties when the rig is offloaded in Alaska from the foreign-flagged vessel carrying it. The Jones Act is a maritime law that prohibits the transport of goods between two U.S. ports by a foreign-flagged vessel. Drilling had been scheduled for the latter half of June, but now it has been pushed back to early July, says Escopeta. Read much more, here.
