Jay-Z, Kanye West, Jack White tune to 'Great Gatsby' (VIDEO)

LOS ANGELES — 'The Great Gatsby' trailer was released Wednesday, and Baz Luhrmann's 3-D interpretation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's classic American novel promises to honor the decadence of the 1920s, while throwing in a heavy dose of the director's signature flourishes, the Los Angeles Times' 24 Frames blog reported.

The trailer opens with a voice-over from DiCaprio, who plays the elusive protagonist Jay Gatsby, setting the scene — "New York, 1922" — as Jay-Z and Kanye West's hip-hop hit "No Church in the Wild" plays over scenes of flappers and men in tuxedos dance wildly and sipping champagne. The teaser also features Jack White's cover of U2?s "Love is Blindness," the Wall Street Journal reported.

The trailer sets up Gatsby's intrigue and introduces the story's other main characters, including Midwestern narrator Nick Carraway (played by Toby Maguire), Gatsby's love interest Daisy Buchanan (Carey Mulligan), and newcomer Elizabeth Debicki as Carraway's sporty companion Jordan Baker, CBS News reported.

'The Great Gatsby' cast is also an international one, with Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan taking on the role of shady businessman Meyer Wolfsheim, and Australia's Joel Edgerton as Daisy's burly husband Tom Buchanan, according to the LA Times.

The trailer did nod to at least some of the novel's imagery, including the iconic, vacant-eyed billboard of optometrist Dr. TJ Eckleburg, Newsday reported.

The film will be released in theaters on Christmas Day.
