Lava dome continues growing on Alaska's Cleveland volcano

Alaska's Cleveland Volcano, which has been active on and off for the last couple of months, continues to show eruption activity, the Alaska Volcano Observatory reported Tuesday. According to the AVO, the lava dome growing inside the crater has grown about 15 meters (almost 50 feet) in diameter since the last estimate on Sept. 9, and now sits a mere 20 meters below the eastern rim of the volcano's crater. The volcano first began showing signs of activity in mid-July, and remained active until its alert level was downgraded at the end of August, then bumped back up a week later. There is no real-time monitoring system in place at the volcano, and the AVO warns that an ash cloud could erupt at any time. For more updates, visit the Alaska Volcano Observatory.
