US Olympic gold medalist Lindsey Vonn was airlifted off a slope at the Alpine Ski World Championships in Austria today after crashing during the super G, CNN reported.
The hospital that's treating Vonn said she has a "complex knee injury," according to CNN.
Vonn, 28, a four-time overall Alpine Ski World Cup champion, lost balance after landing a jump, the Associated Press reported.
The skiing conditions have been challenging on the opening day of the World Cup, and the race had been delayed by three and a half hours because of fog, the AP reported.
"It's not a very difficult course, but in some parts you couldn't see anything," Fabienne Suter of Switzerland told the AP.
All through her career, Vonn has been slowed by injuries at major championships - crashes and concussions; a sliced thumb and bruised shin.
