The Alaska Judicial Council has announced that Andy Harrington and Peter J. Maassen have been nominated as the most qualified applicants to fill the Alaska Supreme Court vacancy, according to a press release sent out Tuesday morning.
The two were selected by the Council, which is required to nominate the most-qualified applicants for a judicial vacancy. The Council completes "an extensive investigation and evaluation of judicial applicants", according to the press release. It asks every member of the Alaska Bar to evaluate applicants.
Gov. Parnell now has 45 days to choose between the two nominees.
Andy Harrington graduated from Harvard University Law School in 1980, and has been an Alaska resident for 32 years. He is currently assistant attorney general in Fairbanks.
Peter J. Maassen graduated from the University of Michigan Law School in 1980, and has been an Alaska resident for 30½ years. He is in private practice in Anchorage, according to the press release.
