Mine reports: Kiss Chuitna goodbye

A proposed coal mine in Western Cook Inlet may irreversibly damage the salmon runs in the Chuitna River drainage, according to this story from APRN. The strip-mining project will apply for state approval soon, and opposition from fishermen and environmental groups is building. The new reports find Pac Rim's reclamation plan for the streams inadequate. Earlier, the state had sent the applicants back to the field for further hydrology study, and the new reports find that data lacking. Listen to the report here.
