Napakiak man charged in shooting of VPSO

State Troopers report that at about 4 a.m. Saturday, July 23, were contacted by a Napakiak VPSO reporting that the other VPSO, Darren Alexie, had been shot and was being treated by medical personnel. The suspect was reported to be loose in the village with a shotgun. Troopers responded from the Bethel Post in the State Cessna 185 and arrived in about a half hour. They immediately located the suspect, Teddy Johnson, 25, walking down the street with the shotgun and were able to take him into custody without incident. Johnson was charged with attempted murder in the first degree. VPSO Alexie was medevaced to the Bethel hospital. He was treated for his injuries and released. The investigation is ongoing. Alcohol is believed to be a factor.
