Claudia Lively, Holly Olsen and Elizabeth Hissem grew up in North Pole, a town in the Fairbanks North Star Borough of Interior, Alaska. The sisters, who according to the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner earned national attention with the 2008 release of their first Alaska-themed children's book, have released a second.
The sisters' first book, "The Vole Family In Winter: When the Northern Lights Come out to Play," left some young readers enchanted with the Alaskan landscape and eager to read more.
"The Vole Family in Summer: When the Midnight Sun Stays out to Play," the second book in the Vole family series, is colorfully illustrated and follows the family of adorable rodents as they pursue outdoor adventures in the Alaska outback during the long summer months.
Lively, who lives in Fairbanks, told the News-Miner, "Some people (have sent) it Outside for gifts, and it's getting a good reaction ... I'm getting lots of good public input."
Lively has been busy promoting the book and making the rounds this holiday season. She's visited book stores and hosted signings around Fairbanks. The book is currently available for purchase at the Vole Family Store and at amazon.com.
