Nunavut groups moving against poverty

According to Nunatsiaq News (Nunavut), Qiqiktani Inuit Association President Okalik Eegeesiak and Nunavut's Economic Development Minister Peter Taptuna sat down with reporters and members of the community to explain how they plan to begin tackling poverty. Eegeesiak explained that although people shy away from the word "poverty," people across the North are concerned about food, money and the cost of living. The conference announced the initial progress of a co-operative effort that will result in the new poverty reduction strategy, which leaders think will also need the participation of Canada's federal government. Nunatsiaq News recorded the event and posted several videos featuring key moments from the event, here.
