'Nyuk, nyuk, nyuk', Gulf spill companies talk to Congress

According to numerous accounts this morning, (of which perhaps first was The Wall Street Journal's) top officials from the three companies connected to the Deepwater Horizon offshore rig disaster and ongoing Gulf of Mexico oil spill began testifying in front of Congress Tuesday. And based on statements made Monday, they are blaming each other. BP blames Transocean's blowout preventer and Halliburton's cementing job on a well plug, and Transocean and Halliburton blame BP for fateful, key decisions it made. No one disagrees that something went wrong with installing the plug. And if Alaska Beat didn't know any better, we'd say blaming a blowout preventer is like admitting a mistake. Anyway, read the Journal's account, here. And for a broader, more opinionated round-up with links, read about "Larry, Curly and Moe" from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, here.

By the way, if you missed PBS NewsHour and NPR's exclusive interview last night with Christopher Choy, a survivor of the Deepwater rig disaster, watch it, here. Choy's harrowing tale reminded us that after surviving an explosion, bobbing around in a lifeboat, and staying awake for 40-plus straight hours, signing anything is probably not a good idea.
