One killed in Alaska plane crash near Delta Junction

According to Alaska State Troopers, a plane crash Sunday in Delta Junction killed the pilot, 28-year-old Eric C. Corl of Fairbanks. Shortly after 3 p.m. Sunday, Corl took off in his Piper PA-12 Super Cruiser from a Delta Junction airstrip. Troopers said witnesses reported hearing odd noises and the engine quitting before Corl attempted a turn back toward the airport, in the middle of which the aircraft stalled and the plane impacted the trees and ground. Corl was recovered from the crash, moved to the Family Medical Center in Delta Junction and stabilized, but died while en route to Anchorage via medevac. The NTSB was traveling to investigate the crash on Monday morning.
