In a press release sent out on Tuesday, the Anchorage Police Department reminded citizens that the sale or possession of fireworks is prohibited under Anchorage Municipal Code.
On the Fourth of July holiday, the Anchorage Police Department will enforce the ordinance, with violators facing a fine of $300. There's also the off chance of personal injury from fireworks. And then there's the more likely chance that your fireworks could damage someone else's property, cause pets to freak and bail, or otherwise pollute the harmony of your neighborhood.
APD was joined by the Anchorage Fire Department in strongly discouraging the use of fireworks in Anchorage or in surrounding Chugach State Park -- for July Fourth, anyway. All bets are off in the municipality on New Year's Eve, when the city relents on its fireworks prohibition.
Catch the fireworks spectacular Tuesday night, at midnight, at Mulcahy Stadium, where the Anchorage Bucs will be playing arch-rivals, the Anchorage Pilots.
