Redistricting board moves: More 'capital creep'?

According to the Juneau Empire, the offices of the Alaska Redistricting Board, which is responsible for redrawing Alaska's House and Senate districts after each census, will be moving to Anchorage from Juneau. A group of five temporary staff members assigned to begin preparing for this year's redistricting voted 3-2 to approve the move. The three 'yes' votes came from members based in the Anchorage area, and the two 'no' votes came from members based in Juneau. Ten years ago, the board's offices were located in Juneau to be closer to Department of Labor and Workforce Development staff who were giving technical assistance. The move to Anchorage was approved to provide a more central location for the board and its staff. Juneau Mayor Bruce Botelho criticised the decision because it was made by staff members, not the board itself. Read much more, here.
