The news many Alaskans are not waiting for: snow. Although parts of Southwest Alaska have already received a dusting, Southcentral has largely remained snow free, especially at lower elevations ... until now.
According to the US National Weather Service (NWS), cold air and decreasing storm moisture resulted in actual fluffy white stuff falling in Anchorage last night and early this morning.
NWS reassures snow-haters that this round may not stick around for long. Snow cover in town is expected to melt by mid day and, if all goes well, Anchorage may see more sun than snow this weekend.
For Saturday, NWS forecasts clear skies with lows in the 20s and some light winds. And for Sunday: "partly cloudy in the morning then becoming mostly sunny. Highs in the 40s. Light winds."
So there you have it. A short fall followed by an early winter. Bring it on, Alaska is ready.
