Senate confirms Judge Christen to Ninth Circuit Court

Craig MedredAlaska Dispatch

On Thursday, the US Senate voted 95-3 to confirm Alaska Supreme Court Justice Morgan Christen to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. With the vote, she becomes the first female Alaska judge to serve on the federal appeals court.

The Ninth Circuit Court is the nation's largest federal appeals court. It is seated in San Francisco and has jurisdiction in much of the West, including Alaska.

APRN reports Alaska's senators, in bi-partisan support of Judge Christen's nomination, praised her from the Senate floor before the vote and noted what a milestone her confirmation would be.

The three 'no' votes against Judge Christen came from conservative Republican Senators Jim DeMint of South Carolina, Rand Paul of Kentucky, and David Vitter of Louisiana.
