Seward Highway avalanche control delays Sunday until 2 p.m.

Folks driving the Seward highway south of Anchorage should expect delays of up to 45 minutes between Bird and Portage until 2 p.m. Sunday, the Alaska Department of Transportation announces.

Crews will be conducting avalanche hazard reduction efforts in the area. DOT asks that drivers use caution when driving through the area and thanks people for their patience.

DOT also asks folks drive with their headlights on and to be prepared for cautious winter driving from Ingram Creek, Milepost 75, to Indian Road.

Due to the unusually warm weather system crossing through Southcentral, the road is slippery, with both patches of ice and wet pavement. Snow removal vehicles were on the highway early this morning.
