Skier? Snowboarder? Then you'll be happy to know Southcentral Alaska got snow. (video)

It's only Oct. 13, but Southcentral Alaska is seeing a bit of the white fluffy stuff falling from the sky at low elevations. This can mean only one thing: Snowboard and ski season is right around the corner.

After last year's incredible bounty we'd like to remind you, dear reader, not to worry (if you are indeed worrying). Take a deep breath and remember winter in Alaska can be just as enjoyable as summer (if not more considering the lack of biting insects).

Need proof of how enjoyable? Check out the how much fun Luke Tanaka had cutting lines in waist-deep "pow" in Turnagain Pass and Alyeska Resort in Girdwood during the 2011-12 ski season.

You have to admit ... that looks super fun.

And, don't forget, deadline to get a reduced rate on a season pass at Alyeska Resort in Girdwood, Alaska expires on Oct. 31. Click here for more detail. Hilltop Ski Area is also running an early bird sale on season passes in case you want to stick around the Anchorage Bowl to carve it up.
