Southeast joins Southcentral Alaska in trending cold temps

The Associated Press reports that on the morning of July 12, the Juneau airport broke a 66-year-old temperature record. The Juneau airport recorded an all time low of 36 degrees. It hasn't been that cold in July since 1946, but even then temperatures only dropped to 40 degrees.

The National Weather Service has already issued a report for Southcentral Alaska predicting that, by the time the end of the month rolls around, it will have been the coldest July on record. This week, Anchorage has routinely been chillier than Barrow, hundreds of miles to the north.

A total of 13 cold records have been set throughout the state, so far. Southeast and Southcentral appear to be the most affected with Juneau, Anchorage, Haines and Skagway all seeing a much chillier July than normal.
