Subsistence provides NYO training

Native Youth Olympics Eskimo stick pull champion Jaylin Prince doesn't put much stock in weight training. More valuable is the fishing he does back home in Kotlik over the summer. "When you're fishing you're gripping the net and you're pulling it," he says, perfect practice for the face-to-face event.

For Prince, who attends Mt. Edgecumbe High School in Sitka, the victory is his second championship this school year. He's also the 2009-2010 3A heavyweight wrestling champion.

The Native Youth Olympics continue at the Dena'ina Civic and Convention Center through Saturday. Admission is free.
