There's still about $17,000 in loot that's unaccounted for more than two weeks after a brazen robbery at the village store in Kivalina, Alaska, state troopers report.
Back on Sept. 27, a whopping $189,000 in cash and about $5,000 worth of merchandise was stolen from the main business serving Kivalina's 400 or so residents. Two days later, troopers arrested two local teenagers, 18-year-old Brandon Swan and 19-year-old Robert Swan, in connection with the heist. About $172,000 in cash was recouped, along with thousands of dollars worth of merchandise.
If convicted on all counts, the Swans face considerable jail time. They've already been charged with second-degree burglary, second-degree theft, third-degree criminal mischief and tampering with physical evidence.
Yet the robbery is still an "open investigation," and troopers want anyone with knowledge about the missing $17,000 -- or the break-in and theft -- to call Kotzebue headquarters at (907)442-3222.
