Two unrelated shootings in downtown Anchorage leave man dead

According to the Associated Press, Anchorage police say a man died after he was shot outside a downtown Anchorage, Alaska nightclub and another person was found critically injured not far away.

Anchorage police say that they responded to Platinum Jaxx, 901 W. Sixth Ave., about 3 a.m. Sunday after reports of a large disturbance, including shots fired. A man in his 20s was taken to a local hospital, where he died.

On their way to the downtown club at 2:30 a.m., officers discovered a man with critical injuries from a gunshot wound at Fourth Avene and G Street.

Police do not believe there is a connection between the man shot and killed outside of Platinum Jaxx and the man found shortly before. Anchorage Police spokesman Lt. Dave Parker told the AP that he didn't think the two incidents were connected. Parker also asked that anyone with information contact police.

The shooting victims' names have not yet been released.
