Two-weekend winter carnival begins Friday in Willow, Alaska

The Willow State Winter Carnival at the Willow Community Center, milepost 69 of the Parks Highway, in Southcentral Alaska, is set to begin Jan. 25. The two weekend event offers fun and games for every members of the family and acts as a fundraiser for the Willow Community Center.

The Carnival will begin on Friday, Jan. 25 at 5 p.m. with the Quick Draw Fundraiser Art Auction, a dinner and event sponsored by the Willow Creek Studio. After the dinner and art auction mushers competing in the Earl Norris Open Class Sled Dog Sprint Race will draw bib numbers.

This event is great for connecting with and experiencing the small community of Willow. Activates will take place on both weekends, Jan. 26-27 and Feb. 1-3., and the venue opens at 10 a.m.

Some of the activities included in this year's carnival are best beard and ugly dog contests, an outhouse race, a fat tire bike race, a chess tournament, an ice cream eating contest and a bridge tournament.

The carnival will also host a variety of local vendors, including local artists and homemade food.
