Award-winning photographer Amy Arbus to judge Rarefied Light

You've probably seen Amy Arbus' photos in the New York Times Magazine, People or any of a hundred or more periodicals published around the world.

She's known for both her fine art photography, included in the permanent collections of institutions like the Museum of Modern Art, and her commercial work for big-name advertisers including Nickelodeon and American Express. She has also produced several books including "On the Street 1980-1990" and "The Inconvenience of Being Born," the latter being a visual analysis of babyhood.

Arbus is the juror for this year's Rarefied Light photo competition. She'll be in the state next week to present the Alaska Photographic Center's public lecture at 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 21. The talk will take place in the auditorium of the Anchorage Museum and is free and open to the public.

Arbus will also present workshops July 22-24. For information and registration, go to akphotocenter.org.
