How to get to the Alaska State Fair by car, train or bus

The Alaska State Fair will open every day until Labor Day, Sept. 5. Here's how to get there.

Driving from Anchorage

Take the Glenn Highway north and watch for the Palmer exit just before the junction of the Parks and Glenn highways. The fair is located in Palmer at 2075 Glenn Highway.

Getting there by train

The Alaska Railroad will make round trips Fridays through Sundays and Labor Day, Sept. 5.

Saturdays-Sundays: The train departs Anchorage at 4:30 p.m. and leaves Palmer for Anchorage at 2:30, 6:45 and 10:15 p.m. (Earlier departures from Anchorage are sold out.)

Friday, Sept. 2: the train departs Anchorage at 12:30 and 4:30 p.m. and leaves Palmer for Anchorage at 6:45 and 10:15 p.m.

All Labor Day departures from Anchorage are sold out.

Getting there by bus

Valley Mover offers rides to the fair from Anchorage only from Monday through Friday.

The bus will make pickups at the following times and locations.

1:10 p.m. Downtown Transit Center

1:15 p.m. Anchorage Museum at Sixth Avenue and C Street

1:20 p.m. Northway Mall

1:35 p.m. UAA in Eagle River

2 p.m. Trunk Road in the Valley

2:30 p.m. arrive at the fair

The return trip is scheduled as follows:

8 p.m. Leave the fair

8:15 p.m. Trunk Road

8:45 p.m. Eagle River UAA

9:10 p.m. Northway Mall

9:20 p.m. Downtown Transit Center

9:25 p.m. Museum at Sixth Avenue and C Street

Cost is $7 one way and $10 for a day pass.

General information about the Alaska State Fair

Hours of operation: Noon-10 p.m. Monday-Friday; 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Saturdays-Sundays; and 10 a.m.-8 p.m. on Labor Day, Sept. 5.

Fair admission: Monday-Thursday, $9 for youths (ages 6-12) and seniors (65 and up); $14 for older kids and adults; Friday-Sunday, $10-$15

Parking: $5 for cars and trucks.

Camping: $5 for tent camping; $15 for RVs
