Glacier-themed shoes designed by local architect arrive in Alaska

Anchorage architect Monica Sullivan won the 2015 Bucketfeet Design Contest with her low-top slip-on shoe design titled "Matanuska Glacier."

The international contest, based in Chicago, promises only that the winner will "be considered" for production, but in Sullivan's case production became a reality. The shoes finally went from factory to stores in September with the first shipment arriving at ShuzyQ outlets in downtown and South Anchorage. By last week they were mostly gone but, a new shipment is expected this week.

The design shows a landscape with blue sky, mountains, the glacier and the Matanuska River.
