What’s happening in Anchorage: Senshi Con, Arctic Entries and Oktoberfest

Alaska's largest celebration of anime, video games, comics and general nerdiness returns this year in an even bigger venue. The convention has moved to the Dena'ina Civic and Convention Center and will feature vendors, exhibits and other booths on all three floors. Highlights include chalk murals from the Chalk Twins, voice actress Mary Elizabeth McGlynn, "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" illustrator Tadd Galusha and more. $45-$80. Oktoberfest

The Sitzmark will host a second weekend of live music, souvenir steins and merrymaking. Get your polka on with local oompah bands, grab a stein and sample authentic Bavarian delicacies. Bands performing include: Alaska Main Squeeze, Alaska Blaskapelles and Oompah iPod. 'Steel Magnolias'

Perseverance Theatre brings "Steel Magnolias," the well-loved tale of love, friendship and hair products set in a small Southern town, to the Sydney Laurence Theatre. See the play that made the 1989 movie such an enduring classic. Friday through Oct. 15, showing at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesdays through Sundays. Tickets $45-$56. Straight No Chaser

If the phrase "male a cappella group" conjures up an image of college students in khakis, you need to see Straight No Chaser. A collection of nine different but harmonic voices, the group has over 80 million views on YouTube and a loyal international following. The group's repertoire ranges from Radiohead to The Weeknd. Arctic Entries

For the second show in Arctic Entries' ninth season, seven Alaskans will each tell a seven-minute story on the theme "Fingers crossed: Stories of superstition, mischief and hoping for the best." These events often sell out and never fail to surprise. 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Discovery Theatre. Tickets $15 at centertix.net.

Afroman and B Legit: I Love the '40s

Afroman is best known for his Grammy-nominated stoner anthem "Because I Got High." The song has been featured in multiple movies, and Afroman continued on to release 12 albums. B Legit started out as a member of his cousin E-40's crew, The Click, and was also featured on 2Pac's "All Eyez on Me." Over the course of his career he has collaborated with Too $hort, Snoop Dogg and Jadakiss. The first 200 people in the door get a collectable Afroman glass that comes with a beer-on-tap special when you use it.
