Deadline for annual Alaska-wide youth art contest approaches

F Magazine, Anchorage's independent, volunteer-driven arts and culture publication, is seeking contributions from young Alaskan artists and writers in grades 7 to 12 for its 3rd annual state-wide youth art and writing competition.

Artists and writers are invited to submit in a wide variety of media and categories including, but not limited to, prose, poetry, fiction, journalism, nonfiction, photography, drawing, sculpture, and comics.

Winning writing entries will be selected by members of the writing group 49 Writers, and visual art pieces will be chosen by UAA art instructor Jimmy Riordan.

All submissions must be received by 10 p.m. on Jan. 20. via the web (click here to submit). Interested parties are invited to contribute up to six pieces (images and/or writing) per registration. The submission fee is $5, but there is a waiver option for artists who cannot afford it.

All visual arts winners will have the opportunity to show their work at Out North Contemporary Art House in Anchorage, and selected winning writers will have their work read aloud. Both winning artists and writers will be published in F magazine's April issue.

Two grand prizes will be awarded, one in each category: A full scholarship for a two-week residency at the Sitka Fine Arts Summer Camp, including airfare.

Visit F Magazine for more information and for complete 2013 competition rules and guidelines.
