At Chilkoot Charlie's in Anchorage on Nov. 9 and 10, modern-dance troupe Pulse cast off the constraints of their usual format (and a few articles of clothing) to raise funds for their upcoming January concert. Playing to sold-out houses both nights, Pulse Dance Company's group tried their hand at burlesque, a format first brought to Anchorage in 2005 with VivaVoom Brr-Lesque.
While Pulse is a coed dance group, only the ladies participated in the burlesque show. With a little help from Outside performers including ringmaster Anthony Lounsbury and hula-hooper Savannah Blue Sease, the group drew rapturous applause and dollar bills from the audience.
Pulse's next show is an evening of modern dance, set for Jan. 25-27 at Alaska Pacific University's Grant Hall in Anchorage.
