Coastal Trail repairs require week's closure near Woronzof

The city will close one mile of the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail just south of Point Woronzof beginning Monday for a week, the Parks and Recreation Department announced this week.

James Stull beat Jeff Ellis by four-tenths of a second to win Wednesday's 10-mile Moose Run time trial, finishing in 22 minutes, 42.9 seconds. Tony Turini topped the master men's over-40 division in 23:00.3, a time that placed him third overall.

For the first time since its tram opened in 1994, Alyeska Ski Resort will let mountain bikers take their bikes uphill in the tram for a rousing ride down later this month.

Folmar blazes uphill

Daniel Folmar set a blistering pace Wednesday to capture victory in the 12-mile Stewart Road hill climb. Folmar won the race in 35 minutes, 36 seconds to beat his winning time from last year by two minutes.

Daniel Folmar outsprinted Jason Lamoreaux after 56 miles Sunday to win the men's expert division in the Arctic Bicycle Club's Kincaid Road Race.

Grumelot, Latosuo win first X-C race of season

Carey Grumelot designed the course, then he won the race. Grumelot finished the season's first cross-country race of the Arctic Bike Club's mountain racing division in 1 hour, 11 minutes, 4 seconds, taking first in the expert men's division on Tuesday.

Daniel Folmar won the men's expert division at the Arctic Bicycle Club's first mountain bike race of the season at the Arctic Valley hill climb Tuesday. Folmar finished the 7-mile, uphill ride in 35 minutes, 20 seconds.
