New ownership for Midtown Anchorage tea and spice shop

Months after the previous owners sought buyers on Facebook, Summit Spice & Tea has new owners.

Husband and wife Randy Virgin and DeeAnn Apgar closed on the purchase of the Midtown shop last week. Their first day operating it was July 21.

The former owners, Audrey Paule and Alex Page, looked to sell the business in January after deciding they were unable to give it their full attention. The business has been open in Anchorage since 1998.

Virgin, who works as general manager of WestRock Anchorage Recycling Center, said he and Paule had been looking to purchase a business for a while. When he saw an Alaska Dispatch News tweet and story that Summit's owners were looking to sell, they got in touch and began the process of buying it.

Virgin doesn't expect to make big changes at the shop soon. The name and logo will remain the same. However, he said some some things might change over time — like possibly "supercharging" the cafe — but that would be gradual.

"We already think the store is great and don't think it needs much change," he said.
