Dawnell Smith wrote her first beer column for the Daily News in 1996 after discovering that her philosophy degree whittled her career choices down to manual labor, shoestring travel and pub-inspired forensics. She undertook all three endeavors before taking a part-time features writer position with the paper in 2004.
Before that, she worked as a bike messenger, landscaper, maintenance worker, administrator, personal trainer, brewer, bartender, freelance writer, relentless student and ongoing parent.
