Saskia Esslinger and Torrey Smith will host a Alaska Community Action on Toxics (ACAT) workshop on Wednesday, Feb. 20 beginning at 7 p.m.

ACAT is a statewide nonprofit research and advocacy organization devoted to environmental health and environmental justice issues.

"Seeds and Starts, Why Organic Matters" will guide participants through organic and heirloom seeds. Learn how these seeds grow to become highly nutritious adult plants rich in healthy phytochemicals. Attendees will learn where to buy seeds, how and when to plant them, how to keep seedlings healthy, how to appropriately thin a garden and other useful organic gardening tips. Attendees will plant seedlings and work out schedules for the 2013 planting season.

Sign up with ACAT.
