Alaska village officer uses duct tape to restrain man on flight to Asia

An Alaska village public safety officer helped subdue a disobedient passenger on a New Year's Eve flight to Asia the Alaska way -- with duct tape.

According to a Facebook statement from Alaska State Troopers, Barrett Taylor was awoken during the 13-hour flight by an intoxicated passenger who was "suspected of smoking marijuana in the aircraft lavatory and disrupted the flight by running around the airplane banging on cabin walls."

Taylor and two other passengers were able to control the 23-year-old passenger and duct-taped the man to his chair to restrain him, troopers said. Taylor watched the man for the remainder of the flight, but that wasn't easy.

"... (T)he unruly passenger managed to chew through some of the tape securing him and had to be re-restrained several times," troopers said.

Taylor's seats were later upgraded on other portions of the trip and the airline wrote him a thank you letter.
