The Anchorage Police Department is investigating the early morning deaths in Chugiak of Nita Kilapsuk and Michael Hagood as a murder-suicide, according to Sgt. Michael Couturier. APD believes that Hagood, the property owner, pulled the trigger.
At 4:03 a.m. police dispatch received a call from Kilapsuk, of the North Slope Borough, and told them that she was being held against her will by Hagood, her boyfriend, in a residence that police describe as an old People Mover bus transformed into a home. The 40-year-old woman told them he had a gun, but when Hagood, 49, spoke to police dispatch, he denied that claim and told them Kilapsuk could leave at any time. The call was then disconnected.
When officers arrived on scene at 4:10 a.m. they heard two gunshots, but saw no one come or go from the home. According to Couturier, one officer entered the bus, and found no one but the deceased couple.
It was unclear what started the domestic dispute said Couturier, but alcohol may have been in play. Investigators are awaiting toxicology reports.
Hagood's parents arrived at their son's home shortly before 2 p.m. and said police never notified them. They claim a "Valley newspaper" tipped them off.
APD spokesperson Jennifer Castro said, next of kin aren't typically notified until after detectives finish investigating the scene.
