Anchorage police: Suspects at large in 2 armed robberies

Police were investigating robberies at two businesses Tuesday, including a loan store in East Anchorage and a liquor store in West Anchorage.

Police initially announced the first incident, at the Money Mart on DeBarr Road, on Twitter shortly after 11:30 a.m.

Police spokeswoman Jennifer Castro said there were no reports of injuries in the incident. Investigators have been told two suspects were involved.

"They were believed to be armed," Castro said. "We are speaking with witnesses and trying to put together suspect information."

Castro said numerous officers gathered in the area to investigate the call. The store offers check cashing and payday loans, among other services.

At the Money Mart, several SWAT officers converged on the scene. Five evidence markers were visible in the store's parking lot.

Police were also investigating a second robbery Tuesday afternoon, at the Value Liquor store on Jewel Lake Road.

Castro didn't immediately have word Tuesday afternoon on whether investigators consider the robberies to be linked.

Police ask anyone with information on the robberies or the suspects to call the department at 907-786-8900.
